MHA#13- Friday Really Late or Super Early Saturday

So the Christmas Rager had been quite the success as far as Connor was concerned. Cutter had showed up, which he had been pleasantly surprised to see. And there had been a good number of jello shots and punch and food and... well if he was honest, he had lost track of everything he had ate and drank during the course of the night.

Somehow... don't ask for details, he couldn't give them if he had tried... Connor and Cutter had made it at least to their floor after the party at some point. That much Connor was aware of because at some point he had woken up with a raging headache to find he was laying sprawled on the bed, fully dressed.

Taking more time than what it should have, Connor made it out of bed and into the living room. "Cutter? You here, Mate?" he called out.

"Yeah, no problem. Slow and steady..." Connor said encouragingly as he helped Cutter towards the couch, trying to keep the dizziness at bay himself, so they both didn't fall in a heap on the floor or the couch.

Cutter was really slow as he let himself be guided to the couch but after what felt like forever he made it up the couch and sank down into it.

“Okay I’m not getting up again,” he decided.

"Fair enough, don't feel like moving much myself," Connor said as he sat down on the other side of the couch. "At least it won't be a bad back that kills us from sleeping on the floor all day," he said, wincing a little afterward.

Cutter managed a weak laugh, “that’s true, I don’t even remember how I ended up on the floor,” he admitted.

"To be honest, I barely remember getting back to the apartment," Connor said with a laugh.

After a couple of moments, he gave a glance towards the kitchen and took a deep breath.

"Ok.... I think we need some water... if nothing else," he said with a somewhat resigned sigh as he tried to prepare himself to the oh-so-long (not long at all) walk to the kitchen.

“Water, right that would probably be good,” Cutter sighed, he stared in the direction of the kitchen, “it’s in the kitchen isn’t it?” it was so far away.

"Yeah... I think I can make it" Connor said, not sounding all that convinced. Just then Rex started chirping happily as he came into the living room pushing something along the ground ahead of him.

Connor stared for a moment as a bottle of water rolled across the floor stopping in front of the couch near his foot.

"Now where did you blood learn to do that mate?" he asked in surprise as he bent down and picked up the bottle and handed it to Cutter.

Cutter blinked a lot as he accepted the bottle gratefully, “I think Rex has been holding out on us,” he said with an amused smile.

"Aye thanks mate, think you can find one for me huh?" he asked as he gave Rex a little scratch under the chin.

Connor smiled as he watched Rex scurry off and then turned to Cutter.

"Well, he's always acted more dog like the longer he's been with us. Guess this is just his newest trick?"

“It‘s definitely useful right now,” Cutter smiled as he watched Rex scurry off and then he opened up the water bottle and took a long much needed drink, “at least it saved us from having to make it to the kitchen,” because it had been so far away and all.

"Aye, he's a good boy he is," Connor said as he watched Rex come back a few minutes later, nudging another bottle along in front of him. Connor smiled as he leaned over and gave some more well-deserved scritches and then downed half the bottle in one go himself. "Hangover recovery is always easier with yer mates right?" he said lifting the half-empty bottle up toward Cutter.

Cutter smiled, raising his own nearly finished bottle, "much easier," he agreed, "I thought after the last party, I was done with the heavy drinking, I've got to remember I'm not 21 anymore," he took another mouthful.

"Eh, you kinda had a reason this time around. I did kinda slam ya with some pretty heavy news," Connor said, looking apologetically over at Cutter. "Sorry about that."

"It's okay," Cutter assured himt, “it was a lot,” he admitted, “I still don’t think I’ve properly processed…everything,” he stared down at the floor, “it hasn’t even happened yet and I … I don’t know how I’m going to stop it,”

"We'll figure it out,"Connor said reassuringly. "There's gotta be a way to save Stephen, stop Helen, and... fix things."

“I hope so,” Cutter sighed, “despite everything that happened between us, he’s my friend …I owe it to him to try, to try everything to save him,”

"And that's what makes ya a good man, Cutter. We'll figure something out to save Stephen." And the silent 'hopefully' was there echoing loudly in Connor's head. And the even louder echo of "you still have to try and save Cutter!" was there as it always was too.
